It was time for our annual vacation. We have traveled all over the United States and this year decided on a trip to the Carribbean. St Croix in fact. So our plane took off on a rainy day headed of Puerto Rico. Where we change planes and on to St. Croix.
It was not raining in Puerto Rico but it was unbearable hot. We were in this very small airport waiting for our flight to St. Croix. The plane we finally had was down the outside steps of the main building. Across the pavement we walked toward this very small airplane. The motor was running as our bags were being loaded. Up the steps to a very small interior with seating one row one each side of the plane. However the single stewardess began seating us in a manner as to spread out the weight. So our group of four got spread out. We eventually took off and I realized this was no ordinary flight. First of all the plane did not fly very high and I could make out every building and the water below us. Secondly I thought we had a serious oil leak on the engine that I could see from my seat. This worried me but I kept quiet. After what seemed like ages on this small plane we began desending onto this island that didn't look at all like the brochures we had looked at previously.
I was never so glad to get off that plane as I've flown frequently but never in so small an aircraft. On looking around it was apparent we were indeed in a place like no other. Very hot and bright sun beat down on us as we got into a cab and headed for our hotel. Upon arriving at our room we found that a gecko like creature was everywhere. I headed for the bar to relax. The bar was outside with a heavy covered roof overlooking the ocean. More on our adventures on St. Croix next installment. Keep in touch
